[Free] Save As Today's Date & Auto-Version Up (Photoshop Script)

This is a remix of Mark David Teo's Auto Name Saver Script

What this script does:

  • For a new document, the script will automatically saves to desktop as today's date and time (ex: "2024_02_14 103245.psd")
  • For an existing document, the script will save to the same location as a new version (ex: "potato.psd" -> "potato_002.psd"). If a current versioning system already exists, the script will attempt to use the same format (ex: "dog-12.psd" -> "dog-13.psd").

Installation:

  1. Download the .jsx file from above
  2. Put the .jsx file into the Photoshop's script folder. Usually it is located at:
    • Windows: C:/Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop version/Presets/Scripts/PutScriptFileHere
    • MacOS: Applications/Adobe Photoshop version/Presets/Scripts/PutScriptFileHere
  3. Restart Photoshop

To run the script:

  • Once in Photoshop, click File > Script > "Save As Today's Date or Auto-Versioning"

Tips:

  • You can map a keyboard shortcut to the script for quick execution. In my case, I mapped it to Ctrl+Alt+S (replacing the default "Save As Copy" command)
